1.DESCRIPTION OF THE STUDY PROGRAMME

    1. Study programme implementation principles

The docu­ment „On the na­tional de­vel­op­ment con­cept of the higher edu­ca­tion and institutions of higher education for the time pe­riod to 2010" drafted by the Coun­cil of Higher Edu­ca­tion sets out the guide­lines for the higher edu­ca­tion environment in Lat­via focusing to be in line with the main guide­lines fol­lowed in the Euro­pean higher edu­ca­tion sec­tor.

The strategic goal of the concept is to ensure a dynamic development of the higher education system of Latvia, maintaining its national character of development, at the same time ensuring recognition of the degrees and diplomas in the European labor market and possibility to continue studies in any other European countries.

During the appraisal process of its mission, the BA School of Business and Finance (hereinafter BA) is taking into consideration the long-term objectives arising from the development of the global processes.

The mission of the BA School of Business and Finance:

BA School of Business and Finance offers world class education for the creative personalities in the fields of international business and finance. Our high reputation is guaranteed by the qualitative offer of studies and lifelong education, by professional and creative staff, by the achievements of the enterprising students and graduates, as well as the close collaboration with the business and finance world.

The goals of the BA School of Business and Finance

  • Produce academically and professionally educated specialists for the national economy of Latvia.

  • Facilitate competitiveness of the graduates in the joint labor market of Latvia and Europe.

  • Create comprehensively educated, smart and creative personalities.

  • Ensure high quality standard development of the educational establishment in a dynamic and constantly changing environment.

The basic values set by the BA School of Business and Finance determining the organization structure and development of the study process:

  • Professionalism;

  • Openness;

  • Responsiveness.

The implementation of BA mission states basic principles for the study programme development and realization.

BA strategical goals determine professional development of the staff and criterions of their qualification. These goals ensure the improvement and offer of the study programmes, wherewith also attain the financial stability of the school.

One of the BA strategical directions is enlargement of the study programme offer. The new BA professional higher education study programme „Risk Management and Insurance” is made and updated according to the requirements of the labor market.

The approved conception on the September 27, 2006 Nr. 742 by the Cabinet of ministers „Basic statements of the education science for the years 2007-2013” orients Latvian education system corresponding to the main basic principles of the European education system.

One of the goals in conception is the provision of the education quality accordingly to the requirements of the labor market. It allows foreseeing greater involvement of the employers in the work out of study programmes. BA has been established the Board of Study programmes. The aim of the board is to facilitate the implementation and improvement of the professional education bachelor study programmes accordingly to the requirements of the labor market. In the structure of the board there are both representatives of the employers; lecturers and students. The project of the new study programme was discussed with the members of the board. In the supplement is Latvian Insurance Brokers Association reference about the study programme (see supplement Nr 11.).

The implementations goal complies with the strategic goals of the second level professional higher education and with the strategy of BA School of Business and Finance for the years 2010-2015.

    1. The goals and objectives of the study programme

The aim of the study programme is to ensure theoretical knowledge and practical acquirements that comply with the requirements of the qualification of finance analyst.

The objectives of the study programme:

  • To ensure the acquisition of required knowledge for the professional qualification that enables study programme graduates to participate in the provision of the successful financially economic activity of the companies and institutions;

  • To promote students’ analytical competences, to develop acquirements in the professional problem solving and project development;

  • To structure study process in the way that develops students intellect, facilitates their mental perfection, helps them to use their intellectual abilities into practice;

  • To explicate students economical thinking, to stimulate their knowledge and rise of qualification.

    1. The content of the study process

Professional higher education bachelor study programme "Risk Management and Insurance" that provides bachelor’s degree in finance and qualification of financial analyst has been licensed by the Ministry of Education and Science on February 26, 2009 (license Nr. 04046-15, dated 26.02.2009.)

For a successful completion of the programme there is requirement of the relevant background education in a form of secondary education.

The study programme offers a possibility of full time study form, the length of study process is 4 years (8 semesters) (see table 1.1.)
